Tohoku University Technology: Novel Bone Formation Promoter: T08-041
New efficacy of nitrogen-free bisphosphonates expected for use in the field of oral surgery!
Bisphosphonates (BP) have bone resorption inhibitory effects by suppressing the function of osteoclasts and are used as medications for diseases such as osteoporosis. However, side effects such as bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (BRONJ) have also been reported, posing challenges. There are very few reports of BRONJ associated with the use of non-nitrogen-containing BPs (Literature 1), but they have lower bone formation inhibitory effects compared to nitrogen-containing BPs. The present invention relates to a treatment for diseases such as osteoporosis based on the unexpected confirmation of a bone formation promoting effect of Disodium dihydrogen-4-[(methylthio) phenylthio] methanebisphosphonate (MPMBP), which is a type of non-nitrogen-containing BP.
